My name is Jose Escoriza and I have been a hairdresser for the past 30 years. I have been involved in working with homeless and disadvantaged young people, as a youth social worker since the late 1980's.

J’s Hair & Beauty for Youth in Care, is a program that provides a link between hairdressing salons, hairdressers and companies, to young people living in institutional care, youth refuges and residential units in the community.

The programme aims to provide:

·        exposure to using Professional products they may otherwise never get the chance to use.

·        promote the industry as a credible and responsible employer of youth.

·        promote the hairdressing profession as a creative and caring profession.

·        improve the self image of young people which in turn will promote good self esteem.

·        provide a free professional hair service in time of need.

There are young children who are abused, homeless, and in need, here in Australia.  We must take an active approach in helping to build more compassionate and caring adults, if there is to be any chance of breaking this cycle.
